Activity 1: LIE DETECTORS Read the following 3 statements about the teacher. Two of them are right. One of the is false. Try to guess. 1. When I first started teaching at university, I was 22 years old, I didn’t have much experience and some of my students thought I was a classmate rather than the lecturer. 2. When I finished my degree I went to live a year to the US. It was a wonderful experience, I improved my English, met many new people, and learnt a lot things about the culture. 3. After finishing my degree, it took me six years to complete my PhD thesis. I worked very hard reading, thinking and writing it up. I could successfully defend it, which allowed me to obtain a better position at this university. Write three statements about you. Two of them should be true. One should be false. Get in groups of 3. Read your statements to your partners and they need to decide which ones are true and which ones are false. Activity 2: THE STAR We are going to continue learning a little bit more about each other. Read the 5 details below. Ask the T questions to try to guess what they are/refer to. 1. 2001 2. Two 3. Claudia 5. Brighton, England 4. Ten Work in pairs. Do the same thing. Draw a star with six details that refer to some personal information. Your partner should guess what they are/refer to.
