John smith's 'the general history of virginia' is an influential narrative account of the early english colonization of north america. This text, written in the third person and objective style, provides insights into the struggles between the british and indigenous peoples, as well as the division between the british, natives, and westerners. The book also marks the first american legend, with the famous story of pocahontas. Written in 1624, this text is considered the first book on new world lands and serves to legitimize english colonies.
