Once fatherhood comes into the world of any person, it brings with it the desire to protect and make the best effort to grant the children the best, without thinking how harmful this can become for them in their future. It is for this last reason that today's society has created the image of "helicopter parents”, 1 mean, those parents who, metaphorically, "fly over” the lives of their children: warning them at every step of the way the dangers they face; preventing them from making mistakes; choosing for them, or worse, fulfilling their obligations, whether domestic or school; or hiding their mistakes, which they would have to learn from to not commit them again. Many specialists in psychology or teaching consider these extreme measures, which is why they designate this type of parents that way. As the American illustrator and activist, Claire Merchlinsky says: "Parents have somehow gotten the message that if parental involvement is good, then complete and total parental control and oversight must be great”. So, is this the best way to raise children? My answer is definitely no. Are "helicopter parents” "hurting" their children? Emotionally, yes, and below are a few reasons. One reason why that is not the best way to raise children is that kids need to make mistakes to know how to do things well, and if these kinds of parents are always there to help their children, these last ones don't learn the correct way of doing the things they did wrong. Rather, parents should support their children's talents and help them strengthen their weaknesses. Another reason against this method is that it does not let children develop their ability to solve problems. When we let them alone and we only guide them, the child finds creative solutions to problems and builds a solid identity. Last but not least, this type of overprotective parenting, gives them a message of how the world is a very hostile place and creates people who are anxious and insecure about themselves. Let them explore everything they are interested in and let them realize what they have in front of them. In conclusion, 1 consider that any type of raise that affects a child personally and does not help him to be able to solve his problems on his own will be detrimental to him, since, in the future, he will be "alone", without the support of his parents to guide him in what he would have to do. In the end, any person has to know how to handle himself and a raise that is taking that away from him is negatively affecting her person. Saúl García Corbillo.
