WRITING ASSESSMENT CRITERIA INTELLIGIBILITY: Fluency and text features LANGUAGE: Range and accuracy of grammar and vocabulary 9 10 A  You cover all aspects of the task successfully.  Your writing is easy to understand.  You organise your writing effectively.  Your writing is very natural. There is little or no interference from your first language.  You use a variety of linking expressions.  You use a wide variety of grammatical structures and vocabulary.  You use appropriate language for the task.  You use complex sentences and these are generally correct.  There may be occasional minor errors in the structure of some sentences. 7 8 B  You attempt all aspects of the task  Your writing is generally easy to understand.  You organise your writing well.  There may be occasional interference from your first language, but this does not impede comprehension.  You use some linking expressions.  You produce a good variety of grammatical structures and vocabulary to complete the task.  You also use a variety of structures to avoid repetition.  There may be a few relatively unimportant grammatical errors.  There may be a few instances of incorrect vocabulary use. 5 6 C+  You attempt most aspects of the task  Your writing is generally comprehensible, but some areas may require a second reading.  There is some attempt at organising your writing but the organisation is not always appropriate.  There is clear interference from your first language.  You produce longer sentences although you may not link these appropriately.  You have enough elementary vocabulary and grammatical structures to complete the task.  There may be several important grammatical errors.  There may be some instances of incorrect vocabulary use.  There is evidence of occasional direct translation. 3 4 C-  You only address the task minimally (includes writing that is too short).  Your writing is difficult to understand.  You do not organise your writing clearly.  Your writing is strongly influenced by your first language.  There is no linking between sentences.  Your writing contains numerous errors which impede communication.  Your vocabulary and grammatical structures are insufficient to complete the task.  There is clear evidence of direct translation.  There are few words and structures which are related to the task. 1 2 D  You do not address the task.  Most of your writing is extremely difficult to understand  Your writing is limited to learnt words or expressions.  Your writing contains numerous errors which impede communication.  Your vocabulary and grammatical structures indicate direct translation.  The words you used are not related to the task.
