There was the supreme god sun , Inti, who had a daughter called Huandoy. Huandoy was a very beautiful young woman like a tender orchid. Her father wanted her to marry a god of similar beauty and features. However, this could not be possible. In the valley, exactly in the town of yungay, lived a humble and brave mortal prince, called Huascarán, who fell deeply in love with the pretty Huandoy. She also fell in love with him. They met secretly every day. They were very happy, until one day they sealed their love. When the father god found out about the love affair between his daughter and the mortal prince, he was very angry. First he tried to convince his daughter to leave him to the mortal prince, because it was not good for a Goddess. But his request was in vain and the two young men got married. So great was the rage felt by the supreme god, Inti, that he cursed this relationship and condemned them to eternity to live separated …. He turned the young people into two great granite mountains, which rose to the top so that they can be seen, but never touched. In addition, it covered them with snow perpetual to calm his burning passion, . In the middle of the two mountains he placed a valley narrow and deep so that they were totally isolated. The lovers cried so much their pain that their tears became a beautiful turquoise blue lake called "Llanganuco". The mountains that bear the name of the princes Huandoy and Huascarán, have an altitude of 6,560 meters and 6,768 meters, are the highest mountains in the valley and in the entire country. According to what they say, it is believed that in 100 or 200 years the snowy mountains will be without snow and Huáscaran and Huandoy will revive and meet again, but this time for all eternity.
