That doesn’t mean all women did that, because they actually published their books using their own names, but she wanted to escape from the stereotype of women only writing romances. And also, she wanted to sort of tell apart her professional life from her personal life She had a scandalous life that was mirrored in her books She was a fearless woman who broke all the Victorian rules The mill on the floss is the book that’s closest to her private life All along her life she had a hard time. She was rejected by his strong-believing family She wasn’t very lucky in terms of love, she fell in love with man who were intellectuals, but none of them loved her back because of her ugliness She suffered from depression Finally, she fell in love with a man that loved her back. He was a married man who had been cheated on by his wife. They ran away together, breaking the Victorian social code and scandalizing English people. Now she was known as a homewrecker and fallen woman, she paid a high price Her family never wanted to hear from her again, just like in the Mill on the Floss By that time George Eliot was born, and the publications were such a success. Some speculations started and finally, she decided to go public. That’s when she publishes The mill on the floss. She was well-known, and people had somehow forgotten or forgiven her past. She started a life full of wealth and success; after all she had gone through
