TEXTOS INGLÉS CURSO PAU25 TEXT 1 Nowadays many people see that illegal immigration is a problem in developed countries but few have considered the personal situation of each migrant person. Governments of rich countries have a challenge with illegal immigrants as it appears to happen in the United States and the European Union. Worried European leaders have every reason to place illegal immigration at the top of their everyday agenda. Their inability to manage the complex mix of migrants and asylum seekers who converge on the borders of many European countries is a great problem for them. Much of the focus so far has been on measures within Europe but it is irrational for governments to spend lots of money on reinforcing European borders without simultaneously trying to find solutions at the source of the problem. It makes a lot more sense to help the displaced at home, otherwise desperate people will continue to take desperate measures. Much needs to be done in the EU concerning illegal immigration, including development of common asylum and immigration policies which are badly in need of harmonization. Questions 1) State in your own words what the author means when he/she says... “European leaders have every reason to place illegal immigration at the top of their everyday agenda” 2) Say in each case whether the statement is true or false, according to the text.
