¡Descarga Para escribir Carta informal b1 y más Apuntes en PDF de Inglés solo en Docsity! INFORMAL LETTER WHAT IS AN INFORMAL LETTER? We write informal letters to people we know personally. We normally give news about what is happening in our lives and often ask for news about the other person. The layout and style of language is different from that of a formal letter. STRUCTURE GREETING AND OPENER Begin with a suitable greeting. FIRST PARAGRAPH Explain why you are writing and/or respond to a person’s news. MIDDLE PARAGRAPH Give information and/or ask questions. *Use a new paragraph for each new topic. CLOSING Finish your letter and say good bye. *Remember to write your name at the end. CONTENT - Use informal language, including contractions (for example, don’t, I’m…) and colloquialisms (it’d be cool). - Use exclamation marks (!) and dashes (-) - Use a variety of verbs and phrasal verbs. - Ask him/her questions. - Do not include the address of the person you are writing to (we only include this in a formal letter). - Use emoticons: I’m happy :-) I’m joking ;-) I’m sad :-( I’m laughing :-D I’m surprised :-o I’m hungry :[ VOCABULARY AND USEFUL LANGUAGE - Hi (there/name)! • Greetings - Hello! - Dear name - Hope all is well - How are you? - How are things? • Thinking about the person you are writing to - How is it going? - How is life? - I haven’t heard form you in ages - What’s up? - Thanks for your letter - It was great to hear from you • Responding to a previous letter - I’m fine, thanks - You asked me about/ if… - You wanted to know about/ if… - Thanks for asking about… • Apologizing - I’m sorry I haven’t written for ages/ a while, but… - You won’t/You’ll never believe this, but… • Giving interesting news - Guess what? - Did I tell you that… - I have got to tell you about… - If I were you… - You should/ought to • Advising and suggesting - Why don’t you… - How about… - You could try…
