Tick the columns on the right. There is an example (0). (10 x 1 = 10 marks) 5 Del Boy sheepskin coat business closes after 169 years Nursey and Son, one of UK's oldest sheepskin specialists that supplied David Jason with famous sheepskin coat for Only Fools and Horses, to shut doors for good. David Jason, as Derek "Del Boy" Trotter, wearing the famous sheepskin coat Changes in fashion and climate warming have forced he family business that made Del Boy's famous sheepskin coat for Only Fools and Horses to close its doors after 169 years. Nursey and Son, one of the UK's oldest sheepskin specialists, has also sold coats to BBC Match of the Day icon John 'Motty' Motson, rock star Eric Clapton and ITV presenter Holly Willoughby. Motson recently revealed he had owned 11 of the trademark sheepskin coats over the years. Actor David Jason, who played Derek “Del Boy” Trotter in the classic BBC sitcom, even had one specially made for his own use after falling in love with the garment he wore on screen. But the company, which has been making luxury garments since 1846, was forced to shut last March after plummeting profits and falling sales plunged it into crisis. The firm reopened in October to sell off remaining stock but today marks the final day’s trade for the Victorian powerhouse, based in Bungay, north Suffolk. Its eight remaining staff grew up together and were said to be saddened to be witnessing the end of an era. Tim Nursey, 65, the managing director, who took over the reins from his father, Samuel Burton Nursey, in the 1970s, said he had battled to come to terms with bringing the family dynasty to an end. Mr Nursey, the fifth generation of his family to run the business, said: "Fashion is changing and the weather isn't as cold as it was. In our heyday we supplied hundreds of men's outfitters and ladies dress shops across Britain and northern Europe. Most have shut down and that filtered down to us. I had to really make the decision (to close) in my own mind. It is a time of change.” He acknowledged that a shop that made almost everything on the premises was extremely rare and said they had done “everything humanly possible” to keep the firm going. Mr Nursey, who joined the company as an 18-year-old trainee, added: "We did generate interest from five or six firms about buying the company but they were put off by the seasonality, the amount of money tied up in stock and the shrinking turnover. We knew we hadn't made a profit for five or six years. They must have looked at us and realised if they were going to overcome that and expand the business they would need a huge amount of money." Nursey and Son used the highest quality toscana and merino lambskin as well as Italian leather to make coats, gilets, slippers, gloves and hats alongside many other products. At its peak, the company employed 85 people but the workforce has dwindled to eight over the last few months. "The last eight of us played football and cricket together when we were young and several 6 people had been with us for 40 years,” he said. "We had all been young together and we had all got older together. "Hopefully everybody who worked for us will think of the happy decades we had rather than the last three years. "Everybody has been paid and treated correctly." Mr Nursey hopes to keep the name of the business alive by launching a property rental company letting warehouse and office space in the building.
