When I was little, I used to love watching TV, alone or with my brother Y/sister Z. We would sit down on the sofa in front of the TV, in winter wrap ourselves up in a blanket or switch on a fan in summer and watch some of my/our favourite films over and over again, until I knew the characters’ dialogues by heart. As an example/For instance, I especially loved the film “X”. It is a story about … who/that… and I liked it so much because it showed me/us how to… The book I liked best and also read at least five times, was “(title)”. Its main character, X, was so …(adjective)… and …(adjective)…. I admired him/her a lot because of this, and I wanted to be like him/her. It makes me happy and sad at the same time when I think about my favourite childhood films and books; happy because it was a carefree time, and sad because I wish I could go back in time to be a child again. (173 words) Advantages and disadvantages of working from home. Discuss. Since the year 2020, when almost the whole world was locked down at home because of the Covid pandemic, we have been discussing what is better, working at home or at an office. There are certainly advantages and disadvantages on both sides. On the on hand, working from home saves a lot of energy in the form of fuel and electricity in transport, because people do not have to get to their offices that are often quite far from their homes. Furthermore, when you are at home, your work schedule is much more flexible than at an office, where you have to be at a certain time and stay there until you have complied with your established work hours. On the other hand, working at an office means you can interact with your colleagues face-to- face, take a coffee or have lunch with them, which fosters friendships and makes possible even love relationships. After work, you can go shopping, to the theatre or meet friends for a coffee or a beer. Some tasks cannot be done from home either. All in all, I think human interaction is something very important and cannot be substituted by online contacts. If everyone worked from home, it would become a pretty isolated society with serious problems. (211 words) Do you like rituals and ceremonies? Explain. Rituals and ceremonies have been part of human societies as long as they have existed. Think of paintings in caves that are thousands of years old and show ritual animal sacrifices. Another example are religions. They have also existed for thousands of years and are based on rituals and ceremonies. But I am not a real friend of these rigid procedures. It is true that some say rituals give you a sense of safety and promote a sense of belonging, as is a Christian mass, where everyone knows what to do at what point of the ritual and what it means. Thus, the believers feel they are together in a community of likeminded people, which makes them feel good and protected against the “outer” world. However, rituals and ceremonies are often hundreds of years old and may prevent innovation and creativeness because they cannot be changed easily. Many of them stem from a time where there was no electricity, no Internet, no social security, no gender equality and force people to keep on behaving as if all this did not exist and block positive evolutions. In conclusion, from my point of view, it is important to accept change in order to move forward in society and leave behind negative habits and traditions. Rituals and ceremonies can help in certain activities, but they must not determine our lives. (227 words) What are your favourite apps? Explain. Smartphones have become part of our everyday lives in the last decades and help us in a lot of situations. They lead us to places we have never been to. They allow us to keep in touch with lots of people, even if they are far away. They let us do business or administrative tasks from everywhere in the world thanks to the Internet. My favourite uses on my smartphone are messaging apps. My whole family and several very good friends live far away, so that I cannot see them every day. But with apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Face Time and the likes, I can talk to them any time. I can see how my grandkids play, they grow up knowing me. I can check on my mum any day. We can exchange photos or videos, news, share them, comment on them, inform the others about important events or moments in our lives. There are thousands of other applications that help us in our personal or professional activities, make life easier and also faster. Nevertheless, it’s personal contact that keeps us happy and connected to our loved ones and lets us feel accompanied at any moment. (195 words) Describe important moments or special people that have made a difference in your life. We usually meet lots of different people throughout our lives. First, there is our family that shapes us since we are children, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings. Then we start
