His aunt Lady Bracknell and His daughter, Gwendolen, pays him a visit. Algernon has a friend named Ernest Worthing who appears by surprise at his house. Ernest had forgotten a cigarette case on his last visit and Algernon is curious about Cecily's inscription to Uncle Jack, he had engraved on the cigarette case. Worthing explains that his real name Ernest confesses that his real name is Jack and that he takes his brother for walks because this way he can behave irresponsibly. SCENE 2 Worthing tells Algernon that Cecily is his ward and that she lives in his house, Worthing does not want to give his home address because he does not trust Algernon. Worthing is in love with Gwendolen and proposes to her, but she doesn't want him. Gwendolen and believes that his real name is Jack, so he decides to be baptized with the name Ernest. To do this, talk to Reverend Chasuble ACT3 SCENE 2 ACT 3 SCENE 3 In the meantime, Gwendolen also arrives at Worthing’s home, unaware that her mother is secretly following her there. Gwendolen is surprised to meet Cecily. She has never heard of her before, but she behaves in a friendly way until she discovers that they are both engaged to be married to Ernest Worthing. After that, the two ladies are cold to each other. ACT 4 SCENE 1 In this scene Lady Bracknell does not want Worthing to marry Gwendolen. She wants her nephew, Algernon, to get engaged to Cecily because he has money. But there is a problem that Worthing is Cecily's guardian and she cannot marry without his consent. He will only allow the engagement if Lady Bracknell allows him to marry Gwendolen. ACT 4 SCENE 2 In this scene the Reverend Chasuble names Miss Prism and Lady Bracknell is surprised to hear that name because twenty years ago a woman with that same name had worked taking care of her baby in Lady Bracknell's house and suddenly one day Miss Prism disappeared with the baby. ACT 4 SCENE 3 In this scene they discover that the baby was Jack Worthing, brother of Algernon and nephew of Lady Bracknell. Worthing discovers from army records that his father's name was Ernest John. From that moment on Worthing can marry Gwendolen and Cecily can marry Algernon. This way everyone lives happily
