UNIVERSIDAD POLITECNICA DE CHIAPAS Ana Lucia Villalobos Rivas Mechatronics Engineering Alicia Santiago, biologist from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and PhD in cell and developmental biology by the University of California, Davis; in collaboration with Esquina Franklin Chiapas, CONECULTA, SciGirls and FabFems, organized a round table with students from High school and college in science, technology, engineering and math careers (STEM). The session aimed to gather a considerable number of girls from different institutions to discuss the importance of the role in women in different scientific areas. Particularly, the meeting focused on providing information to students about projects that inform and encourage girls and young people around the world to increase professional awareness and interest in STEM. Round table strength ideas  Incorporation of women in science and technology.  Stereotypes of the role of women in society.  Promotion of science through SciGirls and FabFems program.  Projects to promote female participation in science. ROUND TABLE REPORT “Science and technology are also girls' stuff” October 10, 2019. 4pm – 5pm Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas “Science and technology are also girls' stuff” Alicia Santiago was the speaker. Since the beginning she acted friendly with us, always respectful and cordial; showing off his great personality and professionalism. Thanks to her, the meeting was held in the best way. Doctor Santiago opened up with a small dynamic which was pretty similar to “Bingo”, but in this activity only she had the cardboard, and it contained multiple questions that she was asking. The activity was really entertaining, not everyone at the meeting knew each other but the Doctor made us feel comfortable and as if we were surrounded by friends whit this activity, it made the environment way more relaxed and trustable. The round table was full of different opinions given by the girls, mostly they seemed to agree. They were given the opportunity to discuss some experiences about what their school was like; they talked about how there were more men than women in the career, how in some cases they were treated different for being women, how was it like to have to learn to stand up for themselves their potential or if there are some who believe in them and give them the impulse to pursue their dreams. While we were listening to these different opinions and stories I felt very pleasant, happy and as if could relate, but at the same time it made me feel a little sad, because I saw how some of the girls have to deal with the stereotypes about women in science, thing I´ve been lucky not to face with. But it is good to know that none of them are intimidated by this and that they seem confident enough demonstrate that women are the future for science.
