TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF SANTIAGO UTESA PUERTO PLATA ENCLOSURE Study career: Psychology Course: English II Group: 003 Theme: Emotional psychological impact caused by COVID-19 Presented to: Lic. Dario Antonio Sosa Presented by: Kirsy Candelario Jimenez Enrollment: 1-21-8555 Puerto Plata Dominican Republic February, 2022. Introduction The COVID 19 pandemic has generated an unprecedented crisis worldwide in which people feel out of control, causing serious psycho-emotional problems. Challenges and stressful life experiences often make it possible to discover or enhance personal strengths and change our vision of ourselves, others and the world towards more rewarding models. Thus, from situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic, understanding, acceptance of change, resistance, commitment, altruism or solidarity can emerge and be reinforced. We must be vigilant to rescue and help make these capacities visible, as healthy ways of coping with a crisis and regaining the perception of control. The general objective of this work is to carry out a systematic review of the emotional and social effects that the world population has suffered in response to the coronavirus pandemic. In this work I will talk about the psycho-emotional effect that the COVID 19 pandemic had at the beginning of 2020-2021 in the Dominican society made up of children 6-12 years old, adolescents 13-18 years old, young people 19-24 years old, adults 25-50 years old and the elderly 55-75 years old. They presented emotions such as fear, uncertainty, depression, anguish, among others. In adolescents between the ages of 13 and 18: Anxiety can be presented through challenging behaviors, apathy, physical pain, sleep or appetite problems, isolation from classmates or family members, and disregard for health measures. In the same way, it is possible that the same concern of the parents about the current situation is affecting the ability to detect said anxiety, and consequently, not responding to their needs. Youth and adults: It has been shown that the COVID 19 crisis has generated a significant impact on the mental health of young people in the Dominican Republic, truncated daily activities, work, the university changed to a new virtual modality due to social distancing, which the Most people did not know how to adapt to these new modalities, which generates stress and anxiety, which combined are lethal to our mental health. In men there were more cases of consumption of alcoholic beverages and drugs, aggressiveness and violence, based on the poor management of emotions that this population presents. The elderly: During this time of pandemic, older adults were restricted more than anyone else since they were the most prone to contagion, due to isolation they can experience a wide variety of psychological alterations, which can influence their mental health. These alterations, often caused by the sudden change that being in confinement has meant and the interruption of daily activities, to which they dedicated a large part of their time and energy. Among the most common psychological symptoms to manifest are: worry, sadness, feelings of worthlessness and confusion, as well as: fear, restlessness, inhibition and irritability; as well as irrational thoughts, beliefs and negative expectations about oneself or reality. Conclusion Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from a common cold to severe respiratory illnesses. The COVID-19 outbreak is stressful for many people, presenting various emotional changes and behavioral problems. This theme brings together various feelings generated by the pandemic, where uncertainty, fear and anguish stand out. The emotional impact was different in each Dominican depending on their age. The children were the ones who suffered the most, not because they were infected with the virus, but because of their freedom; adolescents presented their anxiety through challenging behaviors; In young people and adults, it was shown that the COVID 19 crisis has generated a significant impact on the mental health of young people in the Dominican Republic. Social isolation as a measure to avoid contagion by COVID-19 has had an impact on the mental health of older adults. In conclusion, the COVID-19 pandemic has a negative impact on the mental health of people in the general population, and in particular, on the most vulnerable population groups. The uncertainty associated with this disease, plus the effect of social distancing, isolation and quarantine, can aggravate the mental health of the population of the republic.
