Bibliography (if needed): 6 i-to-i LOVE TEFL Lesson Plan All images have been taken from google https://www.pinterest.com/games4esl/ Lesson Rationale (700-1000 words) By the use of the PPP method you are able to observe the efficiency and productivity as the three steps are easy to implement and simple to follow. The unrestricted nature of the production phase will encourage students to practise the new language they have obtained, as well as their existing language skills. This will make them more confident and will also make them more comfortable when speaking English in a more natural environment. The teacher will encourage them in the correct way to understand and discover the language on their own as the class is made up of adults it wouldn’t be advisable to treat them as children or antagonize them, that being said, it is more important to encourage the students at hand to experience positive affirmations so they don’t get demoralized. The warmer is chosen specifically with the theme of the lesson ahead encouraging them to enjoy the whole class that lies ahead while giving them ideas as to what it is about. Having them discuss what they did over the weekend will not only put them in a more relaxed state of mind, it will also practise their language skills while the teacher can analyse any weaknesses or confidence issues they may have and which words they are comfortable and confident in using. Overall, it will also give the teacher a great opportunity to get to know the students better. Their interests and motivations are important and can also help the teacher to prepare future lesson plans to keep the students interested in what they are learning. During the presentation stage the students will be put into pairs which is useful as they will work with other students closer to their own age and gender, especially in this class where there is an age difference which varies from 18 - 38. This will make them feel more at ease and stronger students will be able to assist those who are shy or not yet confident with their skills. By writing the words on the whiteboard will provide a visual element to the lesson, and they can write the words and the pronunciation in their notebooks. Seeing the pictures with the words next to it will also help with the visualisation and memorising of the words. The syllable stress should be marked to help them with the pronunciation of each new word. Having them guess instead of offering the answers straight away is an important step as this this allows for an element of discovery which makes the process more fun and exciting, while allowing the teacher to indicate where they are in terms of vocabulary. However, if they make mistakes with any of the vocabulary or the pronunciation is bad, it is extremely important not to single them out in front of the class in which they could become embarrassed and less confident to express themselves in the future, but to generalise the mistake to the whole class and for it to be explained together. Have the whole class model the word until the teacher is pleased with the result. It is very important to let some minor mispronunciations happen as this is not so important and overtime they will improve and the class can progress smoothly. When doing the controlled practice, the students are able to learn different contexts of the word. However, problems could arise as certain words could get confused such as “Shirt” and “Skirt” or the difference in meaning between “Shoes” and “Trainers” which can are similar sounds or items, but at this stage some examples of each 7 i-to-i LOVE TEFL Lesson Plan
