THE IMPORTANCE OF LANGUAGE EXPOSURE ON YOUNG ADULTS LEARNERS The mother tongue is defined as the one that is acquired naturally through interaction with the immediate environment through exposure to it, hearing it day by day, memorizing and imitating words; Therefore, it is not very difficult to imagine how this same method can help us with the learning of a foreign language as young adults. As a simple example we have thousands of people who have crossed the border into the United States with nothing but the hope of a better life, willing to suffer all kinds of difficulties, including those that come with reaching a country with a language that you don't speak. It's not isolated cases that show us that these same people after years or even decades of exposure to English, end up learning the language, and although the level of fluency may vary, the truth is that their understanding is enough to allow them to communicate with their interlocutor. Thus, we can conclude that, although its not fundamental, exposure to language is a significant tool when you're learning a language since it allows us to imitate words and sounds directly from native speakers.
