Several parishioners asked Father Carlo if he knew why the little dog sat listening to mass, not knowing that what he would answer would be deeply painful. It turns out that the animal belonged to a man named Oscar. He was an elderly man with no family who went to church every day. One day, he found the dog, whom he named Bobby, and they spent the whole day together and followed him faithfully everywhere. Several months ago, Oscar passed away, and the last day Bobby saw him was at church. That’s why he now decides to go every day and sits waiting for his beloved owner to return. After Bobby’s story was told, the people were absolutely silent. Several could not even hold back their tears at the devotion and loyalty of that animal to Oscar. So they decided to build him a doghouse at the back of the church and take turns to feed him every day. Several people tried to adopt him and give him a new home, but every time they took him away, no matter the distance, he managed to return. Bobby greeted everyone with affection and became an integral part of the church. When he turned 14, the dog left this world in his sleep, it happened in one of Father Carlos’ sermons. The people wept, but in the end they knew that he would finally be reunited with his beloved friend Oscar, who was surely waiting anxiously for him in heaven. With Father Carlos’ permission, they dug a grave in the back garden of the church and buried Bobby. With money they raised together, they had a beautiful plaque made and placed on the animal’s grave that read: “Here lies Bobby, an example of loyalty and faith, a good friend”. Every day, people came to leave fresh flowers and their favourite toys next to the plaque. This incredible animal, despite not speaking the same language as humans, managed to touch their souls and teach them a lesson in faith, loyalty and devotion.
