Final Task “Studying abroad”: Hello everyone, today I am going to talk to you about my own experience of the last 7 months which is the gap year, and more precisely, for me, in England in London. I'm going to tell you about how I got into this university, what campus life is like, what I did during that time, and a lot more. First of all, I think you know as well as I do what a gap year is. It gives us opportunities to learn a new language, and new skills for our future. It gives us extra points on our CV and the opportunity to earn money. It is obviously, as you know, much more than a holiday. I come from France, I decided that instead of studying in my home country, after having passed my baccalaureate, I would rather go to another country to do a gap year. I chose London because I have always had an obsession with English speaking countries. I wanted to perfect my language skills as much as possible, so that I could speak as if I were born there. Also, I love the city, when I first went there with my family I felt so at home there, so much so that when we left I thought it was far too short a stay and I wanted to go back. I promised myself that I would go back, and this time I would stay much longer. So when my teacher told me about the gap year, I just thought I should take the chance. So I asked around at the universities that run this student abroad scheme, and applied to UCL. The entry requirements are simple as a bachelor from France : you need to have a total of 13 in your French baccalaureate Personally, I chose to go into Art History, so I'll talk specifically about that area. Tuition fees are £24,000 for full-time international students, however, there is scholarship for students from France, like me. Of course, you need to have excellent results and profile to stand out from the rest. Unfortunately, I was not fortunate enough to be eligible for this scholarship which covers the full cost of tuition. The level of fees will depend on your classification as a UK, overseas or island student rent is by far the biggest expense it averages £924 per month. Utility bills will be included in your rent for the wards - it's one less thing to think about as you adjust to life away from home. The accommodation is simple studios, with shared catering. During those seven months I had to work to support myself. I did some babysitting, which was a bit complicated because they were not very respectful, but that's not important. If you are lost, there are of course plenty of people to help and advise you during your year at UCL. On campus there are many museums, theatres, libraries, bars, cafes, a shop, as well as reading, music, painting and photography clubs. There are also rooms for religious people, prayer rooms and for worship whoever you are. There are also plenty of opportunities for sports. If you want to learn new languages, this is also your chance, as there is a center that offers 18 languages!
