ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF GLOBALISATION Globalisation affects us all and it presents different aspects. There are valid arguments for both the benefits and the risks. ADVANTAGES • the transport of goods and people is faster and easier • there is decrease in the possibility of war between countries • there is an increase in free trade between countries • people have more opportunities to choose from among products of different nations • it increases the spread of democratic ideals and human rights awareness • it helps developed countries invest in developing ones, reducing poverty and improving living conditions. • It allows the interchange of cultures by mass media • It encourages corporation to operate across borders DISADVANTAGES • it widens the poverty gap especially in developing countries • national governments are corrupted by powerful multinationals • it has a negative impact on the environment • it allows exploitation of poor people in developing countries • it enables outsourcing and as a consequence employees in developed countries may lose their jobs • cultural diversity is threatened because the values and lifestyle of developed countries take over the traditions of the developing ones • economic problems can quickly spread from one country to the rest of the world • there is a higher risk that communicable diseases spread throughout the world
