ENGLISH REPORT, PAGE 85-86 Lara Bryant,2F Recently, our school, constructed an outdoor covered seating area, and our headteacher has asked our opinion about it. He would also like to know whether it would be a good idea to construct something similar for younger students, aged 8 to 12. The facility has been a success and there are many good aspects in favour of its construction: firstly, protection from the sun, has been important, providing shelter during break time for the students concerned about sun damage. Notwithstanding, the covered area would provide us a useful coverage from when the weather is stormy or rainy. In addition, the area is supplied with small tables that could be useful for packed lunches and writing. It is also a meeting place and gives the opportunity for children of different classes and ages to interact. The outdoor covered seating area is situated on the far side of the school grounds. It is very quiet and so, during breaks, you are able to relax properly between lessons, to maximise attention to return to school refreshed and in the right mood to study. Furthermore, you can enjoy nature and you can even hear the bird sing. Although the isolated corner allows students to relax, it is quite a long walk from the main buildings. In addition, the distance may impede injured students from reaching the structure and consequently being able to enjoy it. An increase in recycling bins would be beneficial and a re-planning of the seating would enhance chatting and social interaction. Attention should be given to insects and accumulated smells of groups, litter and food. I think that a similar facility would be of benefit for younger children. Closer to the school, with some of the suggestions above on planning, may be advisable. Recommendations may include the reorganization of the seating, by adding seats that aren’t fixed to the ground where the fountain for the younger classes is situated, while they play. Overall, an excellent opportunity and success, and all have enjoyed the innovation of the school in this idea and construction of the seated area.
