The Victorian age 1830-1901 William IV 1830-1837 REFORMS Reform Act (1832) granted the vote to all male members of middle-class. Factory Act (1833) regulate child labor in factories. Prevents children from being employed more than forty-eight hours a week and no person under eighteen could work more than sixty-nine hours a week. The adults continued to work a lot ours in day since 1847, when the Ten Hours’ Act limited the working house to ten a day for all workers. Poor Law Amendment Act (1834) established a system of workhouse for poor people. When William died, he was succeeded by his young niece Victoria 1837-1901 Britain came out of the Victorian age with a consolidated democracy and an efficient system of government, with proved to be invaluable during the crisis of the following centuries. The first ten years of the Victorian Age was dominate by two important political tendencies: the liberal campaign for free trade and the birth of Chartism. Second Act Reform (1867) gave the vote to skilled working man Elementary Act (1870) recognized the need for general primary schooling. Trade Union Act (1871) legalize trades unions Ballot Act (1872) granted secret vote at elections social reforms cleared the slums, improved public health Public Health Act (1872) and facilitate trade unions Third Reform Act (1884) granted the right to vote to all male householders Between 1880-1900 the Fabian society, an association of middle-class influence intellectuals in organising the “Labour Representation Conference” and support the election of Labour members to Parliament. In 1906 this committee became the “Labour Party” the question of woman: woman’s suffrage did not happen until 1928. The British Empire 1839-1878 In 1853-1856 the British support of Turkey lend to the outbreak of war in the Crimea between Russia on one side and Britain, France, Turkey and Sardinia on the others. It became the greatest nation of earth. Great Britain imported raw materials such as cotton and silk and exported his production around the worlds. By the mid-1800s Great Britain was the largest exporter and importer of goods in the world. Because the English success, the British felts it was their duty to bring English values, lows, costumes and religion to the “savage” races around the world.
