The young man becomes famous , and he goes back to Geatland with treasures for Hygelac, his king. Later on Beowulf becomes the king of the Geats and rules for many years. Characteristics and Features of this piece/literary devices used/symbols and themes: This poem is a long narrative poem which means it deals with both the brave deeds of heroes and the recollection of a glorious past in the history of a country. The main characters are Beowulf, Hrogarth, the Swedes and Beowulf’s helper Wiglaf; the enemies are Grendel, his mother and the dragon. One main theme is the loyalty to the king, who must be generous and protected by his warriors. Furthermore we find christian elements: Beowulf prays the creator of all heavens, there are references to God’s will and the testament and lastly Grendel who represents Cain.
