THE COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS FOR LUMSA UNIVERSITY ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024 Good afternoon, everyone, student, professors and the entire academy body. I’m honoured to be with you today at this commencement from one of the greatest universities in Italy, Lumsa. Today is an exiting day, today I’m going to give you a speech, an important speech for me and I hope for you. Now, I don’t know if you know me, but I’m Camilla Perfetto and I’m a student like you, we’re going to the same university together and I want to tell you a story. Not the Cinderella story, of course, I’m not here for this. I want to tell you the story of my life, the story of how my life changed after I arrived in Rome, and I arrived in Lumsa. I remember that the first day, when I arrived here at Lumsa, I felt disoriented and a little bit scared like a child cause I didn’t know anyone in the university, the new academic environment, professor and people scared me and all the people I loved were far away, in my city Foggia. It was very difficult for me at the start. The only goal for me was to graduate and get a job. I didn’t care to meet new people, make experiences or something like that. Well, I was completely wrong with myself, and I was a little bit silly. Only after years, I realized how changed and how may experiences and opportunities I could live thanks to the Lumsa. Infact, I met new people who are now my best friends, I had great professor who have always helped me when I needed, I travelled abroad with the Erasmus project to improve languages and continuous studies. The most important opportunity for me was when I worked for a political party, which inspired me for my future job. Now I’m sure that I want work in the political party, and this can never be possible without the opportunity, without the Lumsa. Of course, the sacrifices were many and the white nights without sleep as well, but I think this is also part of game, part of university life. In conclusion, I want to leave you with two important messages: First, Thanks to the Lumsa my life has changed in the best and I hope the same for you Second, now you are not only Lumsa students, you are future politicians and diplomats who will change the world, you can do everything you want. You have the knowledges and opportunities for doing this. Trust and believe in yourself, just do it. In final, I want to say you good luck with the best intentions for the future, thank you for your attention and goodbye. Camilla Perfetto
