The story is written in an autobiographical form, with the protagonist, Jane Eyre, who is addressed directly to the "reader". The style presents precisely descriptive aspects of the environment and characters, together with the deepening of the evolution of the protagonist from an emotional, moral and sentimental point of view. Successfully received right from its appearance, the novel is still very current thanks to a concomitance of multiple factors, such as the descriptive, lively and realistic but not pedantic aspects, the psychology of the characters captured with finesse, the intense analysis of feelings and above all the creation of a character, Jane Eyre, endowed with integrity, independence, inner strength and passion. The mad Bertha Mason becomes in this work a sort of doppelgänger of Jane, representing her passions and her animal side, which in Victorian society had to be repressed and hidden. Plot The novel narrates the tormented love between the protagonist and the mysterious Mr. Rochester, embodying in the character of Jane all the ideals of the independent and passionate heroine that the time, through its writers and the romantic trend of the period, was learning to know.
