( perché sono importanti) The Romans conquered the Island of Britain under Emperor Claudius. They are important because they brought their civilisation to Britain , building towns, roads, stone villas and aqueducts. they al so brought thei r language ( latin) and Christianity. 3) What did they build? the romans built the Hadrian's Wall. It is a wall to defend the province of Britannia ( it runs from coast to coast marking the northernmost frontier of thr Roman Empire) 4) Why was Christianity important for culture ? Because the monks copied old manuscript and wrote new ones. The venerable Bede wrote in latin an Ecclesiastical Church History of the English People, which is the main source of Knowledge of this period. 5) What was the last invasion England? It was the battle of Hastings where William the Conqueror “ duke of Normandy” defeated the Anglo Saxons 6) What did the Normans introduce in England? They introduced the feudal system and built castles to defend their conquest. They brought also their language and raised the taxes. 7) Describe the characteristics of the feudal ? All landes belonged to the king. The king portioned out areas of land known as feud to their faithful followers, who in retum promised him loyalty , men for fighting and sum of money. Feudal lords distributed parts of their land to their followers. 8) What did the King do? 9) Who worked the land? The lowest class of serfs were bound to the land on which they worked 10) The serfs were paid or no? The were not paid. 11) What did the lord give to them?
