Dorian ,infact, at first it is good and naive but the meeting with Henry is the reason for its end. Dorian reveals to be corruptible and weak (debole) and decides to sell his soul in exchange for eternal youth . His vanity and selfishness (egoismo) destroy him, and the picture is an visual representetion of the degradation of his soul. Lord henry Wotton is an intellectual and a brilliant talker (parlatore) , he criticized the institutions as marriage and church considered sacred by his contemporaries. he is able to influence Dorian. Basil Hallward is an intellectual who falls in love with Dorian's beauty and innocence. he doesn't want to exhibit the picture also if is his best work because he is afraid that reflects his strog attracion for Dorian . he is killed by Dorian bacause his picture and passion are conidered responsable for the Dorian's tortured existence. Basil and Wotton represents the two part of Dorian's consciousness: the good and evil. Basil tries a pure feeling for dorian and wants to take him on the right way, his killing represents the culmination of the decline and the corruption of the protagonist. narrator technique In this novel is used a technique typical of drama, because the charaters reveal themselves through their words. the reader infact in the first time is immature, but after discovers the situation through the words of characters. the story is told by a third-person narrator. the point of view is internal. the Dorian's apparition is in the second chapter, and this allows (permette) a process of identification between the reader and the character.
