Describe how contemporary advertising and the cult of celebrity reinforce the fear of losing the beauty of youth. Is it something you feel influenced by? What is your view of people going to extreme surgery to preserve their youth? How far would you go in order to stay young forever? (300 words) Today we live in a society built around appearance and prototypes of beauty, that becomes a world obsession. But it was also a torment in the past, an example is the novel “The picture of Dorian Gray”, written by Oscar Wilde in 1890, which tells the story of a beautiful young man, who, obsessed with the fade of his beauty, stipulates a sort of “deal with the devil”. Nowadays what influence our way of thinking in a negative way, making us fell wrong, is advertisement, because it shows a world in which the standards of beauty and the image are everything. To sponsor their products and entice us to buying them, advertisemnet show us how to have perfect skin, perfect hair, perfect body and hiding the defects also using Photoshop, making us dream of a perfection that, after all, doesn't exist. As much of society, | also feel influenced by the prototypes of beauty and sometimes | feel uncomfortable with my body. | agree with those people that resort to aesthetic surgery to improve a part of their body with which they do not feel comfortable. | do not agree instead, with the people that use it to overdo or to keep their youth, because i think that life is a stream you can't stop, and we have to accept, albeit with difficulty, that years pass, also because the signs of old age are the witness of our history, of our lives. In conclusion, remaining young forever is a wish of every person, because many times when we think about the old age, we also think about death, and it is something that scare us; but I'm sure that to the question “How far would you go in order to stay young forever?” | can say that | wouldn't go anywhere, because oldness is also a route of our life where we will learn what we haven't learned during our youth. sarah Resti
