Nowadays, sport and fitness is an important part of most people’s lives. It is the thanks to the vast choice of team and individual activities that people, including myself, are benefiting both physical and psychological improvements. Taking part in sport activities not only helps our bodies but it is also a great way to help us develop social relationships and learning how to compete in a healthy manner. Sports are therefore, both the execution of physical activity but also a time to enjoy a leisure activity. I took up sporting activities during the lockdown period due to the Covid pandemic. It was a great way for me to entertain myself, whilst being enclosed at home with very little to do. It all started when I began watching videos posted online by personal trainers who attempted to lift the nations spirits through this difficult time and teach us how to exercise through their many suggestions and tips. So, day after day, I started to get more and more engrossed and finding myself wanting to train more frequently, until it became my passion. My workouts are mostly bodyweight training, but I also use small weights to help with toning. I prefer doing cardio activities, alternating them with series workouts for an hour three times a week. Working out makes me feel good about myself and helps me to relax. It is a great way to release tension. If I were to give somebody who is considering taking up a new sport or fitness activity, it advice would be to start with simple body weight exercises and work up to your pace gradually with cardio. Another fundamental point to mention is how important it is to take a pause/rest between one workout and another because our muscles need to recover in between sets. Only when you get to a more advanced level can you increase the difficulty of exercises, increase the sets and lift heavier weights. After some time, you will start seeing results and then you will experience self-satisfaction. This in turn will keep you motivated. In my opinion participating in sporting activities has its many benefits, not only will it help you feel more energetic and relaxed, but it can also help you overcome insecurities. However, you must always be careful to perform the exercises correctly because any incorrect movement could affect your health and always wear the right equipment needed for each activity you choose to take up. Doing sport is very stimulating because it is good for health, it improves self-esteem, mood and stress. It is also very fun especially if practiced with friends or with background music Many people start training mainly to lose weight but I think it should, fundamentally be a lifestyle choice.
