Bianca Sofia D'Amico Essay: ways of encouraging young people to study science Since kids grow up their are not particularly interested in science, because it is mostly presented as a boring, theoretical, difficult subject. Although in school science is presented as a theoretical subject, it is mostly practical! As a matter of fact, scientists deal everyday with experiments. However, why is not science presented in this way? How could society encourage a kid to become a scientist? Generally speaking, advertising does not make science and scientists look "cool". Kids grow up with programmes which talk about a young girl who become a very popular and famous actress or singer. And why is that? Why does not the TV make films about how interesting and hands-on science is? They just make it look as a boring subject that children are forced to study at school. Students might be more fascinated by science if the TV and the publicity show them how beautiful and practical it is. Furthermore, school programmes do not help either. It is far more interesting to study, for example, the reproduction of cells in a lab, running tests, analysing and making hypothesis. Nonetheless, it is usual to study that in a class, reading a boring book or listening to an uninspiring teacher and sitting on a chair, uncomfortable and starving, waiting for the bell to ring to go home. To sum up, this is a loss because science is the subject which explains why everything in the world work, so it is very enthralling. It would take little to increase interest in science.
