ESSAY I believe that one of the worst current environmental problems is the heavy usage of plastics; while a full ban on any object made of it could be considered rash and difficult, since it would allow no time to find a sustainable alternative, I think it would be the only way to prevent all the problems that come with it, such as the pollution currently marring the oceans. Practical as plastic may be, multiple researches have shown how it is not sustainable in the least in the long run; a less harsh way could be raising its price and lowering those of sustainable alternatives, such as plant based materials. However, it is also not fair to only blame the public for how the situation is currently being handled: a big part of responsibilities should be taken by all the industries and governments who are allowing this to happen, making little to no effort of easing the population in a more sustainable way of living. Especially while living in such an unstable time, with a pandemic that has barely passed, several important armed conflicts still taking place around the world, countries suffering from hunger crisis and water scarcity, and so many more major issues, it is a hard demand to completely and abruptly adapt to such a eerie, dystopian, and frightening circumstance. Clearly, after seeing how the Fridays For Future movement so quickly lost traction, protests and a public demand for change are also not enough. I reckon the reason for this is that we and probably governments as well, are becoming desensitized, treating this issue as just a dystopian tale. While this may be convenient to the elder generations, who don’t seem to care about what our world is going to look like in ten, twenty years from now, it is a truly alarming and disturbing matter for younger generations. How can it be
