ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR THE WIN Here's a question: would you put your life in the hands of a total stranger? | know that this makes you feel uneasy and that the answer would probably be “no, | wouldn't". But reality is, that you do put your life in the hands of total strangers, hundreds of thousands times a day. Problem is, that you don't even realize it. Each of us wakes up every morning and switches on the lights, trusting not to be electrocuted by a faulty lamp, or cord, or socket. Each of us gets into a car every day to go to school, trusting that all the thousands of components are sound, that the mechanic has serviced it properly, and that other drivers won't kill us. Each of us crosses the street over the pedestrian strips, trusting the cars will stop and not run us over. So yes, you do put your life in the hands of total strangers, every day. Thus, “What would it take for you to put the same level of trust in a robot as you would extend to a human?” More research and experimentation? Well, you got your Covid vaccine after just one year since it was first created, because you put your trust in the human skills and knowledge. Does your fear concern the security and privacy of the data it uses? You let Amazon know your residential address every time you place an order online, and you do it because you trust what Jeff Bezos says about the protection of your sensitive data. Are you worried about getting biased outcomes? Guess what? Robots always do as programmed. They execute exactly what humans have taught or told them to do. We have to remember that, as lifelike as robots seem, they are still tools. They're under human control. And you do trust humans, we've already ascertained that. The major reason why the human being prevents the artificial intelligence from thriving, is because he doesn't trust it. The fact is that there's no plausible reason why you shouldn't trust a machine designed by humans, since you do trust humans in the first place. Artificial intelligence is nothing more than the simulation of human intelligence processes applied to machines, but more effective. Imagine thousands of experts coming from all over the world to train a single robot to acquaint all the skills and put them together to do a better work: what's wrong with it? Taking it rationally, it could only benefit the society, right? Let's take the case of a surgeon as an example: during an operation of a certain entity, maybe a brain operation, he accidentally cuts a vein with the scalpel. Now what? His mistake costs the patient his life, but can we blame the surgeon? We can't, because the human isn't perfect and won't be always prepared for whatever case he's going to face. But still, his mistake killed a person. Can we trust the human now? Wouldn't it be better to replace him with a successfully trained robot?
