Eveline is one of the story that we can find in Dubliners, that is a collection of 15 short stories, divided into 4 categories which represented different themes, that are: childhood, adolescence, maturity and public life. And Eveline is part of the second theme, Adolescence. In this story we can find the most important themes and linguistic devices. An important linguistic device that is used in Eveline is the epiphany, that the autor uses to express a sudden revelation of the character, is the sudden spiritual manifestation, caused by an external object or a banal situation, which reveals the character’s inner truth. In Eveline we can find 2 epiphany: the first when she decides to go away, when she hears the music of the organ, that remembers her mother’s death; and the other when she decides to stay, when she hears the whistle of the ship, that remembers her promise to her mom. A theme really important in Eveline is the paralysis, that is the inaction of the Dubliners in front of their situation of exploitation. There is also the presentation of the characters from the inside point of view, because of the use of the interior monologue, caused by the stream of consciousness, that is the physical phenomenon, because is the flowing of the dote in the mind of the writer, and for this reason the use of limited point of view. In fact this story is narrated in third person from a limited point of view, that is Evelin’s point of view. Ans so the reader knows about all the fact that are told just like from the mind of one character, so the point of view is just one, so in this case is the point of view of Eveline. Because everything that is learned about the various characters and their lives is seen from the protagonist's point of view, because it is narrated through an inner story of the protagonist's thoughts and feelings. There is also the use of a new concept of time: the internal and the external time. The internal time, that is linked to the psychological time, that is the time that our mind, our soul has during for example the dote, that is out of the skin. So is the time lived in the characters inside and lasts more; The external time, is the chronological time related to the physical aspect, to the society, to what you are surrounded by, as the setting in time of the story is just one day.
