DESCRIPTION OF HISTORICAL EVENTS Historical events are all the episodes in the history which contributed to create the current reality we live in today and the current human conscience of history. Historical events are factual, but everyone formulates his/her own vision of things to have a precise idea, by which each person assume a precise position on the argument. And this is actually the real beauty of the study of history: to develop a historical awareness But on what factors does the consciousness of historical events depend today? They are mainly two: evidence and popular culture. To recognize the evidence of facts is fundamental as first step toward a deeper consciousness of history. It’s equally important to understand the concept of historical evidence is not even so granted as many people would think; in fact, still today, part of people deny also the real existence of some episodes in the history. These people are defined as ‘negationists’; their denial is commonly due to the ignorance or, in the worse cases, to the fear of the single or collective of people. This is because negationists are generally terrified of the possible consequences events could have on their personal interests or just on their life (like polititians not recognizing ecological question as a real problem or the Armenian genocide by the Turks, who still deny it). But, logically, in order to understand evidence of facts, it is essential to know them first. That’s why popular culture occupies an important role in the society and that’s why to study is important to acquire consciousness of what happened and we are still living, so the achievements can be exalted and the mistakes not repeated.
