Methods to improve the consumption of local products Each country has its traditional products, which belong to the culture of that country and make it better known in the world; consequently they also rapresent an important economic resource for the locals. The problem arises when traditional products are no more consumed. In fact, the income generated by those comes partly from exportations, but mainly from local and national consumption. But, fortunately, there are some methods governments can use to cure or even prevent this type of problem: product knowledge and promotion. First of all, it is essential to be aware of what we have in our hands, as in many cases the limited diffusion of an item could be simply due to ignorance. Then, the right thing to do is nothing but to talk about that product. This is extremely important and is called 'consumer education’. Well, but what if we want the popularity of a product to grow? You will be surprised, because the answer is more or less the same: promotion. At the base it must still be a valid product of course, but when it is convincing enough then a solid promotion is required to take it to the next level. This can be done through specific advertising campaigns and placements, but there are also some people working for companies who are commissioned for product promotion (‘ambassadors'). In conclusion, as I see it, traditional products are still part of our cultural heritage and that is the very first reason why we should care much more and try harder to value them. (255 words)
