Frankenstein- Mary Shelley Mary Shelley, was an English novelist, short story writer, dramatist, biographer and travel writer. Born in 1797, her father was the political philosopher William Godwin, and her mother was the philosopher and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft. She is best known for her Gothic novel " Frankenstein” or, “The Modern Prometheus”. Frankenstein, or the modern Prometheus, is a gothic, horror and fantasy novel, written by the British author Mary Shelley between 1816 and 1817, at the age of 19. It’s a story told in the first person by three different narrators: Robert Walton, the explorer; Victor Frankenstein, a scientist, and the Monster, his creation. The story is an epistolary novel, because the book is written in the form of letters from Walton to his sister back in England: these tell of the construction of the monster and Frankenstein’s abandoning of it. The central theme of Frankenstein is the pursuit of knowledge and the overcoming of human nature: Victor tries to go beyond human limits to obtain the secret of life. But this pursuit brings only death and destruction “Life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first break through, and pour a torrent of light into our dark world.” a vita e la morte mi sembravano limiti ideali, che io. per primo, avrei oltrepassato, e avrei ve sat un torrente di luce nel nostro buio mondo.”
