In the book, the author tells the story of Dr Victor Frankenstein, a swiss scientist who manages to create a human being, the Monster, by joining different parts of corpses. One of the most discussed topics about the novel is the selfishness of the protagonist, Dr Frankenstein, who has created the monster but refuses to take proper care of him. First of all, we must take into consideration that Dr Frankenstein created the creature for the sake of science, because he wanted to make an innovation in the scientific field using electricity and chemistry to defy the rules of nature. While he was making the monster, he couldn’t imagine that the result of the experiment would have been such a horrible and dangerous creature. With his work, Dr Frankenstein didn’t want to cause damage for anyone; he assembled the monster to make a new scientific discovery, thinking that this could have helped humanity in the future. We must admit, of course, that Dr Frankenstein wasn’t cautious in the making of the experiment, because he didn’t have adequate equipment and knowledge. However, he wasn’t planning to create something bad for anyone, instead he thought that he was acting for the good of humanity. Taking all this into account, we can conclude that Dr Frankenstein didn’t act as a selfish person; he was just an inconsiderate scientist who thought he could be able to defy nature and win.
