The first is the similar jobs of the two main character of these stories, both Dr Jekyll and Dr Frankenstein are doctor or scientists that create a new life using their experiments; but they have different reaction. Dr Frankenstein after the creation of his monster is assailed by feelings of guilt and he want to go back in time to avoid to create that horrible monster on the other way Dr Jekyll is “proud” of his experiment but in the end he is forced to commit suicide to get rid of his evil side. Another common point between the two stories is the crime against nature that the protagonists commit; they created a new life against the nature will and it will represent the destruction of their lives and all their studies. There is also the theme of double in fact in Frankenstein we can recognize an example of these fascinating theme. Captain Walton can be considered Victor Frankenstein's "alter ego", his double, since they manifest the same ambition. Walton and Frankenstein try to go beyond human limits and are punished in the end as are all overreaches and, obviously this theme can be recognize also in Dr Jekyll because of his double identity. In Dr Jekyll’ story there are gothic elements that remind to Mary Shelley’s book like nocturnal gloomy scenes, bloody crimes, fear and terror. To conclude both the authors criticize their contemporary society. Frankenstein highlights the social injustice which transforms an innocent creature into a horrible monster by emarginating him only for his ugly aspect. Jekyll and Hyde, instead, attacks the hypocritical duplicity of the respectable Victorian society.
