The Prioress One of the most important characters described among the pilgrims is a nun – a Prioress -, a young and pretty woman. She’s very nice, her way of smiling is simple and shy. She’s also very polite, in fact she studied French at the school of Stratford-Atte-Boweand her biggest oath was “By St. Loy!” She is known as Madam Eglantyne. She often sings religious songs with a nasal voice (that in Chaucer’s times was regarded as a very beautiful characteristic). She’s very polite also for what concerns table manners. In fact at table her manners are very well taught: she never dips her fingers inside the sauce too deeply, she never lets a morsel fall from her mouth onto her breast, she usually wipes her upper lip so that she never leaves a trace of grease on her cup when she drinks, and she’s always careful not her dress to get dirty. Her disposition is friendly and sensitive. She’s so tenderhearted that she starts crying if she only sees a mouse in a trap. She’s got some little dogs with her, that she feeds with the best food: milk and meat. They are very attached to her, and she hates if someone, by chance, happens to hurt them or beat them with a stick. She wears a very elegant veil, her mouth is little, red and soft, her forehead large, her nose little and her eyes shines like two stars. She’s tall too and she likes having beautiful dresses: she has a beautiful cloak, a coral bracelet on her arm and a wonderful rosary, from which a golden brooch hangs. On it there’s written in Latin: “Amor vincit omnia”. With her there are another nun, a chaplain and three priests. Uno dei più importanti personaggi descritti tra i pellegrini è una suora -una Priora-, una donna giovane e carina. Ella è molto piacevole, il suo modo di sorridere è semplice e timido . E' anche molto educata, infatti ha studiato francese alla scuola di Stratford -Atte- Bowe e la sua più grande esclamazione è "Per San Loy!" E' conosciuta come Madam Eglantyne. Canta spesso canzoni religiose con una voce nasale (che ai tempi di Chaucer era considerata una bellissima caratteristica) . Ella è molto educata anche per quanto riguarda le buone maniere a tavola. Infatti a tavola i suoi modi sono molto ben istruiti: non immerge mai le dita dentro la salsa troppo profondamente, non lascia mai che il boccone cada dalla sua bocca sul suo petto, è solita asciugare il suo labbro superiore così da non lasciare mai una traccia di grasso sulla sua tazza quando beve ed è sempre attenta che il suo vestito non si sporchi. Il suo carattere è amichevole e sensibile . E' così tenera di cuore che comincia a piangere se solo vede un topo in trappola. Ha alcuni cagnolini con sè, che nutre con il miglior cibo: latte e carne. Sono molto attaccati a lei, e lei odia se a qualcuno, per caso, capita di far loro del male o di batterli con un bastone. Indossa un elegante velo, la bocca è piccola , rossa e morbida, la fronte larga, il naso piccolo e i suoi occhi brillano come due stelle . E' anche alta ed ama avere bei vestiti: ha un bellissimo mantello, un braccialetto di corallo sul suo braccio ed un meraviglioso rosario, dal quale pende una spilla d'oro. Su di esso c'è scritto in latino: "Amor vincit omnia". Con lei ci sono un'altra suora, un cappellano e tre preti. summary
