GLOBAL WARMING The environment is threatened by CLIMATE CHANGES which are caused by global warming. What causes GLOBAL WARMING? - Deforestation - Ozone hole - Greenhouse effect The ozone hole and the green house effect are caused by POLLUTION. ↓ It is caused by the emission of polluted substances coming from: a) heating systems b) air conditioners c) cars (exhaust fumes) d) power stations which, when make electricity, produce SULPHUR DIOXIDE that pollutes the air. GLOBAL WARMING effects are: - melting of glaciers - sea-level rise - hotter summers and winters (increase in temperatures) - species loss - natural disasters: increase in storms, tidal wave, hurricane, tornado, flood, drought What can we do to save the Earth? The Three “R”s ↓ Reuse – Reduce – Recycle REUSE: - Reuse plastic bags - Reuse coffee cans, shoe boxes and other containers - Bring clothes sacks to the store with you instead of taking home new paper or plastic bags - Recharge batteries REDUCE: - Reduce the amount of waste you produce - Buy products that don’t have a lot of packaging - Save energy: Switch lights off when you leave the room, never leave your TV on stand by - Save water: Don’t leave the tap on while you brush your teeth, have a shower not a bath, use the dishwasher instead of washing up. - Save paper. Use both sides of all papers. - Reduce the usage of your car, use public transport when possible RECYCLE: - Recycle the household rubbish: cans, plastic and glass bottles, papers.
