The United Nations The two main articles of the United Nations Declaration of Human rights. The three main goals of the 2030 Agenda of the UN - gender equality, reduced inequalities and peace, justice & strong institutions - are included in the first two articles of the United Nation Declaration of Human rights of 1948. Art. 1 Art. 2 AIl human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, languages, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. 1 LUI.(H an ISLES AND STRONG LSULUMOLIS Gender equality The 2030 Agenda promises to put an end to barriers that prevent women and girls from realising their full potential. Reduced Inequalities Goal 10: reduce inequality within and among other countries. LL IEAMISI SENSO LUIS Peace, justice and strong institutions Promote peaceful societies, provide access to justice for all and go against violence. A mysterious and powerful creature: the woman. The role of women in society has always been object of controversy throughout time. From the 585 DC Council of Macon discussing whether women were endowed with a “soul”, to the witch-hunt which killed an estimated 100,000 women between the XV-XVIII century, with female scientists sent to stake to suffragette movements and today's “me too”, a lot of progress has been made. In Italy, we succeeded in achieving the right to vote in 1945, while the 1981 referendum legalised abortion; yet, too many people still think that football and blue is for boys, whereas volleyball and pink is for girls. Nowadays, who talks about women doesn't focus on loss or damage but on energy, power and freedom: women became scientists, teachers, CEOs and even politicians. Since the dawn of time, women have experienced significant inequalities. For instance, in work environments they have always been paid less than men, even when performing the same duties, whilst struggling to balance their carriers and families. Throughout the world. Throughout the world different cultures follow different trends: the Eastern soviet block saw the rise of a matriarchal society, while the West is based on a patriarchal model. In the East, the role of women has always been well-respected, as is the case for all ex-communist countries. A particularly balanced example is Scandinavia, which follows a socialist tradition and the gender role is balanced. On the other hand, until recently the Western world has been characterised by a patriarchal society: in the capitalist model men work and provide for their families and women should only look after children and do the housework.
