Each state has a primary duty to protect its population from serious and continuous violations of human rights.  Charter. The Charter reflects the importance of the role of education in the promotion of the Council’s values: democracy, human rights and the rule of law. It is a prevention of human rights violations. The Charter contains 16 specific articles divided into four sections. In this document the definition of education for democratic citizenship (EDC) and human rights education (HRE) are formulated. EDC consists of education, information and activities in order to protect democratic rights and promote the development of democracy; HRE consists of education, information and activities in order to build and protect human rights in societies. EDC and HRE are connected but they have different aims: EDC focuses on democratic rights in the society, while HRE focuses on human rights in people’s lives. • There are many ways to spread human rights around the world. In the story we find in particular two important figures, Mohandas Karamchand Ghandi and Martin Luther King. Ghandi used the method of non-violent protest characterized by peaceful resistance without abuses of physical or verbal violence, to defend human rights. Martin Luther King organized a non-violent protest. The March on Washington was the most participatory and significant march, where Martin Luther King gave his famous speech about the human rights. • One way to promote human rights is to spread these values to the youngest. Give more space in schools regarding the importance of these fundamental rights and how to respect them in the best way. All this has the purpose of building a society, starting from the foundations, where there are no inequalities or violations of human rights.
