After the hundred years war we have another important war:The war of roses between the York and Lancaster dynasty.After that in England the power is in the hands of the Tudor’s dynasty.The first Tudor king was Henry VII who ruled the kingdom as a businessman,in fact he invest in the built, and he transformed England in a modern state.He encouraged the married of Arthur with Catherine of Aragon. After he died we have Henry VIII, his son.He was called “The Golden Price'' cause he is smart and able in every camp.He married the brother’s widow (Catherine).He wanted a male heir so when he didn’t get it,he tried to divorced to his wiwes;in particular when he had Mary,he wanted to divorce to Catherine but the pope didn't accepted it,so he decided to broke with the Roman church and in 1534 with the ACT OF SUPREMACY he founded the Anglican Church.After that he divorced and married Anne Boleyn who gives birth to Elizabeth. After the other four wiwes he gets the male heir Edward. With Edward the protestant power was reinforced,and the Book common of prayer was printed.After he, we have Mary I the only surviving child of Henry VIII and Catherine. She tried to restore the papal obedience,so she did persecution against the protestants,for that the name Bloody Mary. Elizabeth I,Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn’s daughter become queen of a divided nation in which the majority anti-Catholic-Spanish. She never got married and for that she was called “The Virgin Queen”. To demonstrate her majesty she wore magnificent clothes and jewels. The English Renaissance The English Renaissance developed later than its European counterparts and covered the historical period from 1509, when Henry VIII became king. The English literature of this period investigated human passions, showed confidence in the power of human reason to interpret man and nature, and promoted the dignity of English as a literary medium.The New Learning, as Humanism was also called in England, was established in grammar schools all over the country and in the two universities, Oxford and Cambridge.(In Italy in the late 14" century, Humanism was the major intellectual movement of the Renaissance. Humanists believed that the study and imitation of the classical cultures of ancient Greece and Rome would bring about a cultural rebirth.)
