The three key events that contributed to the emergence of romanticism in europe: the american revolution, the french revolution, and the industrial revolution. The american revolution marked the birth of democracy ideas in the colonies, while the french revolution spread these ideas across europe, leading to social reforms and economic liberalism. The industrial revolution brought about a new society with the rise of the working class and criticism of capitalism.

ROMANTICISM — start with 3 important events: AMERICAN REVOLUTION (1776) The British government had : - Strict control over the american colonies - taxes it in return of nothing American colonies had no representation in the British parliament a war broke out thanks to the support of European countries (France, Spain) Europe: spread democracy ideas The colonies conquered the: AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE based on democracy ideas. FRENCH REVOLUTION (1789) Thanks to the F.R. there was a wild spread of democratic ideas all over Europe in Britain had a great impact in the society, so there was born disorders, social unrest and there were the lower class accepted and welcome this new ideas, because they represented social reforms, like: - Factory Act - New educational system ECONOMIC LIBERALISM Its a new idea of freedom, where the government doesn't interfere/control the economic field, in particular the investment of its population. 2 different approaches: The upper classes were afraid of losing their power TECHNICAL INNOVATION Thanks to the new inventions and developments, there was also a revolution in the agricultural field. - therewere the use of new material (like iron and steel) - Invention of new machinery - developments in transport and communication INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION (1760-1840) NEW SOCIETY Born a movement of people from the countryside to the city, where the fabric was. There was the creation of a new social class: the WORKING CLASS = who lived and work in a terrible condition— no safety condition, badly-paid, the women were less considered (less paid, subject of discrimination), also exploitation of children. CRITICISM OF CAPITALISM The economic system was criticised by William Blake, who reflected in his works the social problem and condition of the society, in particular the problem of the exploitation of children.
