It is a center of tecnology and business. The Houses of Parliament • It is the seat of the British parliament. • It is located in Parliament Square and it consists of the House of Lords and the House of Commons. St Paul’s Cathedral • It is located in the heart of the city, the business centre of London. • It was built by Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of 1666. Westminster Abbey • It is one of the most important churches in London. • It was built in memory of King Edward the Confessor. • All British kings and Queens are crowned here, and many of them are also buried there. • You can see the Coronation Chair and the Poet’s Corner where there are the tombs of many famous English poets. Buckingham Palace • It is the official residence of the Queen in London. • It was built by the Duke of Buckingham in 1703. • The Changing of the Guard takes place every day at 11.30 a.m. • You can visit only a small part of the palace and the Queen’s Gallery. The British Museum • It is the oldest museum in the world. • You can see extraordinary treasures from the ancient worlds of Rome, Greece and Egypt and you can also admire the Rosetta Stone Madame Tussaud’s • It is the wax museum • It is located in Mrylebone Road. • You can see a lot of wax models of famous people: singers, actors politicians and historical celebrities. Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery • It is the most famous square of London. • It’s a popular meeting place with its famous fountains and the Nelson’s Column (the Admiral who defeated Napoleon at the battle of Trafalgar). • On one side of the square you can see the national Gallery, a famous art gallery which contains famous paintings from all over the world
