He studied at Cambridge and he became a sports man. He began to write poetry in 1807 and he published Hours of Idleness. In 1809 he set out on his Grand Tour Spain,Portugal,Malta,Albania and Greece where he collect the experiences inspiring the first two cantos Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage. The cantos were so successful that Byron became a literary and social celebrity. After he published a series of verse narratives that are: The Giaour, The Corsair and Lara. In 1815 Byron married Annabella Milbanke but the marriage finished because Byron had a relationship with his half-sister Augusta. Surrounded by scandal and debts, he left England in 1816. He lived in Geneva where he became friend of Percy Shelley and wrote the third cantos of Childe Harold. After he moved to Venice where he produced the fourth and the last canto of Childe Harold, and began to write his masterpiece Don Juan.In 1824 struck by fever he died, his heart is buried in Greece and his body is in the tomb of his family in England. The Byronic hero With his life and his works he popularised the Byronic hero a passionate, moody, restless and mysterious man. He is charaterised by individualism and the conventional moral rules of society. He is an outsider, isolated and attractive at the same time.He is noble but wild and rough in his manners. He has a great sensibily to nature and beauty. Women cannot resist him,but he refuses their love;men either admire or envy him. Byron’s individualism The figure of the Byronic hero originates in a complex and contradictory personality. The nature is not a source of consolation and joy,but is a theory that don’t have any message to convey.
