It's also called "The modern prometheus" because the protagonist of the novel dare to defy nature as Prometeo. Either were overreacher: Dr. Frankenstein has given life to a been and Prometheus who gave the "fire" to men going against Zeus. The story: Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a Swiss scientist, wants to create a human being, but the results of the experiment is ugly and revolting: he creates a monstrous creature. When the doctor abandoned him because of his evil and disgusting aspect, the creature doesn't have any role in society, no identity and no name (then he was called as his creator), so he asks to the doctor to create another female creature to keep him company. The doctor refuses his proposal so Frankenstein startes murdering and acting in a negative way. The structure (matryoshka): The writer, who appears in the novel, decided to join a series of letters written by Walton, an explorer, to his sister Margaret Saville, to make a novel. In the same way the monster is created assembling pieces (novel's structure= monster's structure). Themes: -Overreaching: Dr. Frankenstein has given life to a been without respeting the rules of nature - Science: the doctor creates a human being using electricity and chemistry - Fire: the thunder makes alive the monster - Denial of the female role: there isn't a female figure in the whole novel, because Mary had guilt (Percy's wife kill herself). Infact the bride of the novel is denied, killed on her wedding day and the moment of motherhood isovercome and therefore denied.
