The Aesthetic Movement A litterary movement Refuse of the society Search of the beautiful : “My life is like a work of art” Aesthetic  Edonism -Artist : the creator of beautiful things -Art: celebrates beauty Life imitates the art In Italy  Gabriele D’Annunzio In France  Joris-Karl Huysmans In England  Oscar Wilde He believed that only Art as the cult of Beauty could prevent the murder of the soul. He lived in the double role of the rebel and the dandy. His aesthetism clashed with the didactism of Victorian novels. The Preface is the manifesto of the aesthetic movement The artist is the creator of beautiful things. To reveal art and conceal the artist is art’s aim. Those who find ugly meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. No artist desires to prove anything. Vice and virtue are to the artist materials for an art. All art is quite useless.
