One of them was Beowulf Sheafson, son of the former King Shield Sheatfson. He had as heir the great Halfdane, who had three sons: Heorogar, Hrothgar and Halga. Hrotgar, to proclaim and show his power, built a large mead hall called Heorot Hall. In this place every day there were parties, poets and singers. But a demon hated the happiness of Heorot's hall so, one night, he went there and took thirty men with him and the next night he left the dead bodies. He went on for 12 years, so, the Danes started leaving Heorot Hall. After many years, Beowful, son of Hygelac, king of the Geats, arrived on the coast. He was the strongest man on earth, and after hearing the monster's story he decides to help and offer him advice to defeat the enemy. CHAPTER 2 Hrothgar welcomed Beowful and accepted his help because he had known him since he was a child and because, in the past, King Hrothgar helped Hygelac in a feud, in fact he had killed a boy and the king sent a treasure to the victim's family. Beowful wanted to fight Grendel in single combat without weapons. But a man was not happy, Unferth. He was jealous of Beowulf's courage and provoked Beowulf with words but answered in the right way saying that he is brave while Unferth never showed his courage, indeed he had killed his brothers. Queen Wealhtheow entered the hall to pour mead and thanked Beowulf who promised him that she would juice the monster. CHAPTER 3 The Danes could now feel that there was a new atmosphere as of old happiness. Night came and Grendel came to the room where they were. The demon grabbed a sleeping guard and bit the man's body. The monster was about to grab Beowulf but he jerked off the bed and held him tight. He pulled off his arm and shoulder and the demon screamed so loudly that he woke all of Heorot Hall. Grendel fled the Hall and disappeared into the darkness. 4 of Beowulf's soldiers hung out his arm so that everyone could see him, the next morning they all followed the monster's blood trail to see where he had gone: in fact they ended up in a lake full of blood where he probably drowned. Now Unferth couldn't fault Beowulf at all and a bard compared Beowulf to an old story where the hero Sigemund killed a dragon. The king and queen were very grateful for what Beowulf had done and considered him a son. CHAPTER 4 Soon they prepared a victory feast in which the king gave many gifts to the Beowful and Geats warriors, gave them a banner, a precious helmet, a chainmail armor, eight horses (to Beowulf the white one with a saddle with precious jewels) and a compensation. When the banquet ended late at night, everyone got ready to sleep. But suddenly Grendel's mother entered the room looking for something, in fact she grabbed Grendel's armor and arm but she too took the king's best friend: Aeschere. The terrified king sent Beowful to the hostile place where the monster lived to defeat his mother. CHAPTER 5 Arriving at the lake, the king saw the head of his friend Aeschere and Beowulf promised him revenge. Unferth donated a sword that belonged to many heroes, called Hrunting to Beowulf. The hero threw himself into the lake and fought with many of our seafarers, then he found himself in a cave, without water, where the monster was, Beowulf wanted to kill her with the sword but it had no effect so he decided to fight her with his bare hands, but the monster pulled out a dagger and Beowulf stumbled to the ground. CHAPTER 6 The monster stabbed Beowulf but the chainmail was very resistant, he turned his head and saw a very big sword, so he took it and cut off Grendel's head, the monster screamed revenge but the hero stabbed her again and from her head many treasures came out. Immediately after killing the monster the sword melted because Grendel's blood was poisonous, in fact the lake began to boil and the hopeless King Hrothgar decided to return to Heorot Hall while the soldiers remained by the lake. many treasures came out of the monster's head but Beowulf decided to take away only
