The first was Shield Sheafson, who was succeeded by his son, Beow. When he died, his successor Halfdane had three sons: Heorogar, Hrothgar and Alga. The most prestigious was Hrothgar , who ordered to built a big hall, "Heorot Hall”, to hold feasts with his people and to celebrate his power. One day the peace was broken by a terrible monster, called Grendel, which started to seed panic among the population killing some people every night in the hall. The monstrous beast terrified Hrothgar’s kingdom for twelve years, until the king of Geatland, Hygelac, sent his best warrior, Beowulf, to help Hrothgar. Chapter 2 Beowulf was a very strong and brave man. When he met Hrothgar, he offered his power to the king to defeat the monster. He decided to fight with Grendel without weapons but only with his hands. But in the hall there was Unferth, who fully convinced of his promise because he was jealous of Beowulf. Instead, Hrothgar immediately believed in this hero who came to save his people. Chapter 3 During a banquet the king pleased with the hero to be careful and control as well as possible his Heorot Hall so Beowulf and the Geats remained on their own to control the hall. While everyone was asleep, as usual, Grendel came out of the darkness and silently kill a man. Beowulf heard a noise and waking up he saw the monster so he began fighting him and, and after an hard challenge, the hero beat the beast which cried for the pain. Before Beowulf could definitely kill Grendel, the monster succeed in go out and die out of the palace. The day after everybody could see the Grendel bloody tracks and be sure of its death. Hrotghar promised Beowulf and his warriors a lot of treasures. Chapter 4 In the same day the king organized a big party to thank to the hero for having killed Grendel and saved the kingdom. The inhabitants was very happy and thankful to Beowulf and everything went well. But the problem were not yet stopped. During the night indeed, while everyone was happily sleeping, a second monster went into the hall and killed a man called Aeschere, who was the best friend of the king. This second monster was Grendel’s mother who came to revenge the death of her son. After had murdered the man she took what was left of Grendel’s body and she ran away from the palace. Chapter 5 The day after Beowulf and his few warriors went into the forest to look for the hiding place of Grendel’s mother. The monster lived in a cave in a lake's bottom which was full of snakes and demonic creatures. Beowulf decided he had to fight against Grandel's mother on his own as with her son, he wore his armour and helmet and the sword that Unferth had given him and dived in the lake. After a day of swimming he arrived at the deep of the lake and he started fighting with the beast. The battle was very terrible, during it Grandel's mother try to kill him hitting with a knife but Beowulf was defended by his armor then he succeed in killing the monster cutting her head with the same knife. Chapter 6 While the Geats were waiting they saw the lake's water become red because of the blood, so also for this were really concerned about their leader. At the bottom of the lake meanwhile Beowulf who have already killed the monster saw that the sword was melting then he notice that there were a lot of treasures in the cave but he decided to take nothing. When Beowulf came out from the water holding the head of the demon they were all joyful. When they arrived at the King palace he was very happy too, but he gave Beowulf an advice, he said he mustn't put his trust in his strength and his power because it wouldn’t be eternal. Chapter 8 Beowulf, many years after, became king of the Geats when Hygelac died in a battle. His kingdom went well for fifty years until suddenly a new danger threatened his people. There were a
