He had an unhappy childhood since his father went to prison for debts and he had to work in a factory at the age of twelve. These days of suffering were to inspire much of the content of his novel. His autobiographical novels are Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Little Dorrit, Hard Times. Theire protagonist have become the symbol of child exploitation. In the novels “David Copperfield” and “Oliver Twist”, Dickens attacks social ills: workhouses, repressive education. In all these novels, the greatest victims are children. Charles Dickens nacque a Portsmouth. Ebbe un’infanzia infelice poiché il padre fu imprigionato per debiti e lui andò a lavorare in fabbrica all’età di dodici anni. Questi giorni di sofferenza hanno ispirato molto del contenuto delle sue opere. Le sue opere autobiografiche sono Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Little Dorrit, Hard Times. I suoi protagonisti sono diventati il simbolo dello sfruttamento infantile. Nelle opere “David Copperfield” e “Oliver Twist”, Dickens attacca i mali sociali: le case di lavoro, l’educazione repressiva. In tutte queste opere le più gradi vittime sono i bambini. OLIVER TWIST Oliver Twist is a poor boy of unknown parents. He is brought up in a workhouse in an inhuman way. One day he runs away to London. There he falls into the hands of a gang of young pickpockets, who try to make a thief out of him. At last the boy is helped by a middle/class family that adopts Oliver and shows kidness and affection towards him. After some investigations it is discovered that Oliver has noble origins. Oliver Twist è un povero ragazzo di genitori sconosciuti. È allevato in una casa di lavoro in modo disumano. Un giorno scappa a Londra. Lì cade nelle mani di una banda di giovani borseggiatori, che cercano di fare di lui un ladro. Alla fine il ragazzo viene aiutato da una famiglia di classe media che adotta Oliver e mostra nei suoi confronti la prole e l'affetto. Dopo alcune indagini si scopre che Oliver ha origini nobili.
