Riassunto Oliver Twist Oliver's mother was in the middle of the road, and soon after giving birth she died leaving her son who began to cry. The child no longer had a father, a mother, a home or even the possibility of asking for help. So Mr. Bambol decided to give him the name of Oliver Twist and make him work hard, where | begin to suffer from hunger and pain. At the age of nine he was moved to another workhouse and, like adults, he worked many hours a day and above all suffered from the bad conditions he was in. One day Oliver was starving and made the bad choice of asking for a little more food, so Mr. Bambol got angry and decided to send him away. After several situations and unforeseen events he ended up working in London where he finds the bad company of another gentleman Fagin, who leads him into the bad street of pickpocketing where everything seems to start for fun, but in the street it was seen as a bad form of income. Oliver realizes he has ended up in bad company when his friend tries to rob Mr. Brownlow, a socialite who mistakes Oliver for the snatcher. Oliver is unjustly arrested, and yet cleared and taken into Mr. Brownlow's home. However, one day, during an errand he is running on behalf of his new godfather, Oliver is kidnapped by Sikes and his girlfriend, the prostitute Nancy, who forcibly bring him back to Fagin's service. The latter forces the protagonist to carry out a new burglary at the Maylie house. But Oliver is wounded in the arm and is treated by Mrs Maylie herself, moved by the boy's confession about his own misadventures. Meanwhile, Fagin wants to get hold of Oilver again, and he gets help from Monks, who has discovered that Oliver is his half-brother and the illegitimate son of a sister of Mrs Maylie, and that therefore he will inherit an interesting fortune. However Nancy, who is good of heart and has overheard Fagin and Monks' criminal plan, warns Mrs. Maylie and Mr. Brownlow. But Nancy is killed by Bill Sikes. Monks, in an attempt to eliminate forever the clues that could reveal Oliver's true identity and thus steal part of the inheritance from him, comes into possession of a locket and a ring that Oliver's mother had given to old Sally who had witnessed on the verge of death. But Oliver has the upper hand and thus discovers his true identity: he is the son of that Agnes Fleming and Mr. Leeford and Monks is his step brother. Furthermore, Mrs. Maylie is Oliver's aunt. Having received his share of the paternal inheritance, Oliver is adopted by Mr. Brownlow, and thus can begin his life as a bourgeois well integrated into society.
